Reasonable Fees
Lawyer fees are a product of a number of factors including the time and effort spent on a matter; the complexity of the case; the importance of the case to the client; special skills the lawyer has, and the results obtained for the client.
Free Initial Consultation
If you are facing a criminal charge you are probably worried about the consequences on your life, your liberty, your family, and even your employment. These are all legitimate concerns. With this in mind you will be looking for a lawyer with experience to help you navigate the criminal justice system.
This free consultation gives you an opportunity to speak with Deniz and learn about the steps in a criminal case. At the beginning of a case, it is common to feel anxious about the process. It may even feel as if your voice is being ignored. The initial consultation will help relieve some of the anxiety and stress that comes with a criminal allegation.
Block Fees
A block fee is a fixed fee or a flat fee for taking the case up to a certain point in the litigation or for performing a particular task. Often, we set block fees for resolution or settlement of the case. In most cases, this is beneficial to the client because it will lower overall costs, focus on results, give certainty, and it allows the client to speak freely with Deniz instead of being worried about the meter running.
A fixed fee is set regardless of how much time the lawyer spends on the case. By contrast, an hourly fee is where the lawyer keeps track of their time spent on the matter and invoices accordingly. Hourly rates are calculated at 6-minute units or 0.1 of an hour. The hourly rate keeps track of time spent travelling to court, discussing the case with the client, reviewing disclosure, researching case law and so on. Hourly rates can add up quickly in addition to creating an administrative cost.
Instead, everything is covered in a block fee. This allows Deniz to be accessible to his clients and to take the time needed to explain each step.
Forms of Payment
We accept cash and e-transfer. Unfortunately, at this time we do not accept VISA or other credit cards.
Payment Plans
Not everyone is in a financial position to pay a retainer immediately. A payment plan with scheduled payments allows the client to manage their funds while allowing the lawyer to begin working on the case.
The Fine Print
The retainer is an amount paid to our firm in trust, for deposit to your credit, on the understanding that it will be used to satisfy our accounts for legal services, and disbursements, at the time accounts are delivered. The retainer is a source of payment for your accounts.
All amounts paid to us as retainer funds, are placed in our mixed trust account and drawn upon from time to time to satisfy our accounts. Please note that we do not earn any interest on such funds held in trust nor is interest credited to you. All interest, which may accrue, is paid directly to the Law Foundation of Ontario in accordance with Law Society of Ontario guidelines.
